Seattle Municipal Code
Help in retrieving a code chapter
The Seattle Municipal Code database is a collection of code sections. Ordinarily, code sections are retrieved by typing a query word or words and selecting from the resulting list of documents which match the query terms.
This can make it awkward to retrieve an entire code chapter, which may contain many sections. Since it is not obvious how to do this, here are instructions.
- Identify the code chapter you need. If you don't know the chapter already, do a search to come close. For example, searching with the term noise in the Words anywhere box gives you a list of code sections containing the word noise.
- From the list of documents, figure out the chapter or chapters you are interested in. The "noise" search is a challenging example, but near the end of the list of documents are several in chapter 25.08. Chapter 25.08 is indeed the main part of the code dealing with noise regulation.
- Go to the Seattle Municipal Code Table of Contents. A link is provided on the main Code search page. Retrieve the table of contents for the Code title you are interested in. For example, Chapter 25.08 is in Title 25.
- Retrieve the chapter you want. You will get a display like the one below.
Title 25 ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION
Chapter 25.08 NOISE CONTROL
Subchapter I. General Provisions
25.08.010. Declaration of policy.
25.08.020. Findings of special conditions.
25.08.030. Chapter additional to other law.
etc.
Clicking the Chapter 25.08 link (highlighted text) will retrieve the entire chapter.
Clicking each section will retrieve only that section, one at a time.
